The 7 Bad Habits that Bring on Yeast Infections
The occurence of a candida induced yeast infection is not always preventable.
Sometimes your diet will slip or you'll need to take antibiotics for a set period of time. Preventing an outbreak is not always within your control.
Fortunately an outbreak IS always curable...with the right methods.
I also know that when I was experiencing my recurring yeast infections, the outbreaks were no coincidence. Truth be told, I was guilty of some bad habits that were sabotaging my body. I didn't know it at the time, but I've learned quite a bit since then. I hope you'll learn from the mistakes below and avoid these candida overgrowth contributors.
- Using Scented and Antibacterial Soaps - The outbreak of a Yeast Infection is the direct result of an imbalance between the bodies healthy, natural bacteria and candida albicans in the body. If you think you may be coming down with a yeast infection, especially males with penile skin irritation, avoid antibacterial soaps.
- Douching - Many women are unaware of this, but these vaginal cleansing rituals are a HUGE factor with the onset of vaginal yeast infections. The acidity in your vaginal area keeps the candida in check and prevents it from growing out of control. Overcleansing the area removes the good bacteria that maintains your pH balance. You'll notice the onset of this vaginal infection by symptoms of dryness, irritation and sometimes even bleeding. Vaginal Yeast Infections generally have a noticeable white discharge with a cottage cheese consistency. The discharge may or may not have odor.
- Using Petrolium-based lubricants - This is a big red flag. Always used water based lubricants during sexual intercourse. Aside from irritating male and female genitalia, this method of lubrication disturbs your bodies pH levels and encourages the candida bacteria to flourish.
- Not Showering after the Gym - Poor hygiene can contribute to candida overgrowth by denying the skin proper aeration.
- Having a Diet High in Sugar - As you know by now, sugar "feeds" the candida albicans. By sustaining the yeast with sugar, it makes it more difficult for your body's Acidophilus bacteria to fight off the overgrowth.
- Not Urinating after Sexual Intercourse - Urinating right after intercourse is a good habit to get into. It flushes harmful fungal bacteria from your system before it has a chance to proliferate.
- Wearing panty hose alone - Nylon and Lycra may trap air and create a breeding ground for yeast infections. Never wear panty hose alone -- always wear cotton panties underneath. Men also need to give their areas a little breathing room. Remember, candida thrives in the mucous membranes of your body. Don't suffocate these areas with tight, restrictive fabric. Allow for a breathable environment.
If you're guilty of any of these habits, don't be too hard on yourself. With every new bit of knowledge and understanding, you will begin to win the fight against your candida problem - PERMANENTLY.
